Thieves Strike in Broad Daylight

December 17, 2009 by Ken Elmore · 3 Comments

Thieves struck a home in the 400 block of Lucerne this week. Watchful neighbors report two men were spotted kicking a door in to the home just after noon on Monday.

Police were called and so were the owners. Police say electronics were stolen, including a  flat screen TV.

Police took two suspects into custody leaving the island, but no charges were filed.

Tampa Police spokesman Andrea Davis tells DI Buzz, the victim told police they locked their house at 845AM when they left for work and were later called by a neighbor about the break-in.

This incident brings up the importance of a neighborhood watch program, where neighbors sound the alarm when they see something out of the ordinary. Harold Moore is leading the charge on the island to bring back the Neighhood Watch Program.

“The bad guys were foiled by an alert resident who knew enough to furnish the police with enough information for them to quickly and decisively bring the situation to a successful conclusion. That, my friends is a Neighborhood Watch program in action!”says Moore.

If you would like to join a growing number of volunteers on the Islands who are becoming crime stoppers, please email Harold Moore at mooretrux@aol.com.

If suspects were taken into custody, why were no charges filed?
Was any property taken/returned? Please follow up, DI Buzz!
